Recycle Your Junk Mail Into Tags

We are big on recycling at my house, so in the past all my paper, cardboard, and junk mail has gone to the recycling center down the road. Since I became interested in paper crafting, I see those materials with new eyes. Now I recycle them a different way – I use them in my projects!

I cut out my first batch of tags from junk mail this week, and it couldn’t have been simpler.

I collected several sizes of advertising cards that came in the mail and grabbed some store-bought tags I had on hand. I traced the tags onto the cards, but I could just as easily have drawn the lines with a ruler to my desired height and width. I could have even cut the cards into strips without measuring them first and then snipped off the corners to create tags. I used my paper trimmer to make it quick and easy, and because my scissor skills are awful!

Now I can either glue on some card stock or paper, or brush paint or gesso over them to create a sturdy base for a mixed media project. I love free supplies!

What is your favorite way to use junk mail in your art? Please share in the comments!
