Simple Coffee Dyed Papers and Doilies

My order of paper doilies arrived this weekend, so I decided to do some simple coffee dying.

I use a sheet pan that I bought from the Dollar Tree, and I just layered my doilies in it along with a few sheets of various types of paper.

I had some strongly brewed coffee waiting in the refrigerator, so I just poured it over the papers, lifting and turning them to make sure they were evenly coated.

To make the coffee super-strong, I opened the coffee pod and dumped the grounds into the container with the coffee. Sometimes you get some interesting spots by including the grounds in the soaking process.

After a few hours I removed the papers from the pan and hung them up to dry. I especially like the way the tracing paper (far right) crinkles in this process. Some of the doilies are more splattered than dyed; that’s because I hang my papers at an angle to dry (so that they look like a diamond shape rather than a rectangle shape) so that the excess coffee drips off of the point of the page in just one spot. I place a doily beneath each page to catch the drips. Sorry I forgot to take a picture of that!

Do you use a different method for coffee dying? Please share it in the comments!
