I decided to have another try at doodling some flowers today. My drawing for Day 1 was completely spontaneous, with no planning or design beforehand, and it shows! For today’s art I did some research on Pinterest to get some inspiration, and I came up with something a bit more stylized.

Once again I used my Pigma 1 mm Graphic Ink Pen for the drawing. I love the precise line I get, and the fact that it doesn’t bleed or smear, even if you’re using watercolors on your finished drawing as I did here. I didn’t want to fill the page completely as I did yesterday but I thought it needed more than these three flowers so I added a different kind of flower and finished off with some leaves. I ended with a thin scribbly border that I actually didn’t quite leave room for on the left but oh well.

I used a set of 36 Artists Loft watercolor paints for this project. I continually stress on this blog that I’m a beginner at most art techniques, so I don’t always invest in high-quality supplies since I’m trying to stretch my art budget whenever possible. I chose this watercolor set because of the variety of colors in the palette – not because they’re professional quality – but I’ve been happy with them so far. (Note: you will want a better quality brush than comes in a set like this because “plastic” bristles just won’t give you a smooth result.)

The watercolors were a lot of fun to work with, even in the tight spots, but my favorite thing is adding the highlights with the posca paint pens!

I may have gone a little overboard with the dots but once I started I couldn’t seem to stop! Finally, I used a corner rounder punch to try to disguise the fact that my watercolor frame didn’t look too great in the corners.

I’m hoping to work a little more with watercolors once school is out this summer, so if you can recommend a set of watercolors that will be an upgrade for me please share in the comments!
Blessings,
