ICAD Challenge 2019 – Day 3

ICAD Challenge – Day 3

Here’s today’s ICAD art! I’m still keeping with my chosen theme for this week of an inked background and a doodle or zentangle image.

Starting off simple…

I thought I would create some “happy hearts” today, so I started with a few wavy vertical lines and then drew hearts of all shapes and sizes along the lines with a Sakura 1 mm Graphic Ink Pen. This is a great pen for Zentangle drawing because the ink is waterproof (so you can add color to your drawing), it won’t bleed through most papers (including the cheap index cards I’m using for this Challenge!) and even though the ink is dark and rich it doesn’t smear while you’re working.

Drawing hearts. And blobs!

I still need lots of practice with my consistency, but I figured if I completely filled up the paper with designs then the mistakes would kind of be camouflaged. And of course, the Challenge is all about having fun with no pressure to be perfect, which is Win-Win since I get the practice I need AND I get to feel good about the art I’m making because I’m sticking with the challenge!

This is very satisfying!

The final step was to ink the background with some Tim Holtz Distress Inks using a blending tool, and to ink the edges with some Black Soot ink to make the whole thing pop.

If you have some good Zentangle resources, please share them with me in the comments!

Blessings,
~Happy Heart Art Girl
