ICAD Challenge 2019 – Day 2

2019 ICAD Challenge – Day 2

It’s Day 2 of the ICAD Challenge and this is today’s creation. I had the thought that it would give me some direction to work with a unifying theme each week, so I decided to continue with an inked background and some Posca paint pens for the rest of this week.

These dewdrop inks are a fun size and shape to work with!

I created a simple background by stamping six different colors of Memento Dew Drop ink pads onto my index card. It was quick and easy to fill up the entire card this way, and the shapes gave me some defined areas to work with.

I usually only work with black and white posca pens to add highlights and depth to a completed piece of art. It was fun to pull out a variety of colors for this project!

I used a variety of extra fine line Posca Pens to add designs to each stamped area. Because it’s the weekend, I had plenty of time to work on this card, and I may have gone a little crazy with the pens!

These stamps remind me of Dyan Reaveley’s style of art!

Unfortunately, it didn’t look like a finished piece of art when I was done, so I pulled out a stamp set that I hoped would be bold enough to stand out against such a busy background. I can’t remember where I got this one, but you can find a similar set here.

I used the lined side of an index card for stamping off the edges to keep the ink off my craft sheet. I can use the unlined side of the card for tomorrow’s project!

The stamps were a good design choice, but even though I used Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black they just didn’t pop enough. (I think that’s a common problem with silicone stamps. I should have roughed them up with a fine-grained sanding block before using them.) So I went over the more faded-looking areas with a Sakura 1 mm Graphic Ink Pen to help them stand out more. I also added a few highlights with the white Posca pen. The last step was to ink around the edges of the card with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Black Soot. I wanted some smudging, not just a sharp outline, so I used a blending tool to smear it a little.

So that’s it for Day 2 of the ICAD Challenge! Are you participating? Please share in the comments!
