Index Prayer Card – Coneflower

This is another piece of Prayer Card art, and I really like the way this came together. My inclination is toward clean, simple designs, and I really have to push myself out of my comfort zone to layer a multitude of elements, textures, and colors.

Here I inked the background with Tim Holtz Distress Ink using his ink blending tool. (My tastes also lean toward a cool palette, and this felt like a nice springtime choice.) Then I stamped over the whole card with a script stamp using white ink.

I stamped the coneflower stamp from the Stamper’s Anonymous Flower Garden stamp set (one of my favorites!) onto white card stock twice, along with some extra leaves. I colored it with Prismacolor watercolor pencils and then blended it with a water brush. I find coloring stamps so satisfying — it’s one of the reasons I got into stamping! I then fussy cut everything and glued it to the card. (You can see one of the leaves is upside down because I haven’t mastered reverse stamping yet!)

The Bible verse was simply printed out on copy paper and mounted on card stock. I inked the edges of the verse cards and the index card with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Black Soot. It always amazes me how much a project pops when the edges are darkened.

One thing I wish I had done differently was to have the bottoms of the stems even with the bottom of the card. I’m not thrilled with the “floating in mid-air” look here. I also feels like it needs a little something else to fill in the middle and left side of the card. If you have suggestions, please share in the comments!

Blessings,
