Butterfly Love Bookmark

Another FAIL project today!* As an avid reader and certified school librarian, I use a lot of bookmarks, and I often like to create my own. Here’s one I made to give someone else, but ultimately I ended up creating a second one that I liked better. In fact, I was pretty UN-happy with the way this one turned out.

Supplies used for inking and coloring the bookmark.

I inked the background with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Scattered Straw and Wilted Violet, and then used black Versafine onyx ink and this new-to-me Kaisercraft botanical stamp (below) which is great for beginners like myself because it includes several elements in a one-piece stamp. This means I don’t need to use several different stamps to get an interesting image.

Looks like I put the stamp back in the package wrong! Sorry it looks reversed!

I added the word Love from the Kelly Creates stamp set (that I also used in this project).

Beautiful script word stamps!

This set is a two-fer because you can stamp the beautiful script words on your project, and you can use them as a template for perfecting your own lettering skills.

Use with tracing paper to practice your lettering!

I then emphasized the butterflies and leaves with more distress ink, and I colored the bodies and wing edges with a Tim Holtz Distress Crayon in Rusty Hinge. (The crayon gave me more precise control over where I put the color versus applying distress ink with a sponge applicator.)

If I were actually using this bookmark, I would add some ribbon through the hole at the top to set it off. However, I didn’t like the way the colors turned out – they just didn’t blend well together – so I didn’t bother finishing it.

Do you have a favorite stamp with several elements built into the design? Please share it in the comments!

Blessings,
